A Cake to Honor the Groom

February 25, 2010

One look at this cake and you know it’s for the Groom. After all, who else but the groom would want a cake shaped like a pint of beer? The cake should taste like chocolate, but look like beer. No problem, right?

Well, at Beaches Pastry, that’s not a strange request.  In fact, we find these requests challenging and pretty cool. After all, cake is our medium.

You husband-to-be plays soccer? We’ve got a cake for that!

Your daughter likes to shop?  We’ve got a cake for that!

Your brother smokes cigars? Well, you get the picture…

Call us. We’ll help design a cool cake. Really.

Happy Sweet 16

December 6, 2009

A girl celebrates her Sweet 16th birthday only once – and wants it to be memorable. With that  plan, Deana and Hannah approached Beaches Pastry to make a spectacular birthday cake incorporating many of Hannah’s favorite things:

different shades of purple
crystals and bling
carrot cake and chocolate cake
rolled fondant and bows

We sketched ideas at our first meeting, which resulted in a cake design that Hannah loved.

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

Taking cues from her favorite flavors, we created a 3 layer cake: the bottom layer was carrot cake, made with pineapple, walnuts, coconut and raisins and filled with orange scented cream cheese frosting. The middle and top cakes were chocolate cake with layers of Nutella hazelnut spread and white chocolate buttercream.

Happy Birthday Hannah! Beaches Pastry wishes you a year filled with laughter and love.

We received this letter from the newlyweds not long ago:

“Thank you soo much for the amazing cake. Not only did it look great but it tasted incredible.
Thanks for helping our special day even more special.”

We wish you many years of joy and happiness. Call us on your first anniversary for another celebration cake!

Congratulations Adam and Andi

May 24, 2009

By the time this is posted, Adam and Andi will be married. We wish them many years of happiness and joy.

Today, we’re finishing up this cake for tonight’s rehearsal dinner – a replica of Adam’s car – a Lexus GS 350 sedan. Here are a few photos of the cake as it progresses from a large rectangle to a sculpted sedan.

The rectangle of cake layers is carefully carved to form the outer shape of the car.

Rolled fondant, colored black to match Adam’s car, has been smoothed over the carved cake. Details, such as the front grille and headlights, are also made from rolled fondant and glued to the car’s exterior.

Today we’ll add windows, doors and rear trim, then deliver it to the party this afternoon. I’d better get back to work!

Laughing for the Cure

May 9, 2009

Pink bags lined the tables while bright pink and silver balloons floated behind the silent auction items. Tuesday evening we were all wearing our pink ribbons in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The silent auction was followed by an animated live auction where thousands of dollars were raised in support of  breast cancer treatment. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard helped auction his #9 football jersey in person, posing for photos with high bidders. In fact, the winning bidders returned his jersey to the emcee in order to have people re-bid and raise even more money for the Komen Foundation!

The evening was a success – we had the opportunity to meet many new people while supporting such an important cause. Each guest took home one of our Komen Pink Ribbon cookies – we hope you enjoyed them!

Springtime Butterflies for a cause

March 24, 2009

Katelyn Joy Derstine was a 20 year-old vibrant girl from Sarasota, Florida who was active in her school and community. A tragic accident took her life, but her spirit lives on through a foundation set up in her name: Katelyn Joy Derstine Scholarship Fund.

The “Fly High Award”, established by her mother, was inspired by Katelyn’s fondness for butterflies, and is presented to young women who demonstrate academic excellence and a life-long dedication to selflessness.

These butterfly cookies are based on a drawing created by Katelyn:

Dear Mary, Wow! … I received the custom butterfly cookies last week and they are absolutely spectacular, delicious and amazingly just like Katelyn’s butterfly! I … cannot wait to call you for an event to make some more butterfly cookies! … thank you for your support and generous, compassionate gesture.
Warm Regards & Fly High

Ordering cookies for your corporate account

September 6, 2008

Customers, in many industries, are promoting their businesses by offering custom-made cookies to their employees, clients and business partners. With an accompanying note, a box of decorated cookies is an appreciated gift and creative marketing tool.

Here’s how to order:
Contact Beaches Pastry via our website and we’ll be happy to discuss ideas to compliment your business. With an inventory of hundreds of cookie cutters, we can use our imaginations to personalize a cookie (cookies) for you.

We made it easy at the holidays for one local customer who owns an architectural cast stone business. Cookies with the designs of their most popular fireplace mantles were decoratively boxed and delivered to their business, ready to be hand-delivered by employees. Feedback from this creative holiday gift was tremendous!

Another business thanked employees during appreciation week with lemon-scented sugar, rich chocolate and fragrant spice cookies in springtime designs. This was a lovely way to let people know what a great job they’re doing!

Send a box of decorated cookies to your employees, business partners and top accounts and enjoy the thank-yous you will most certainly receive!
